NEW! Procedure to renew AFA/CFF membership

September 4th, 2015

This year there is a new process in place to renew your Alberta Fencing Association (AFA) and Canadian Fencing Federation (CFF) membership dues.  In past years the Club administered the payment of these dues but starting this year members must create an account on the CFF website and pay the membership dues themselves.  Membership is valid for one year beginning September 1 of each year.

Memberships with these two organizations provide the Club with liability insurance coverage.  Fencers who do not have a current AFA/CFF membership will not be permitted to fence.

Things to Know:

  • registrants require their CFF license (available on their AFA profile) to log in, not the passport number.  Login to the AFA website at to obtain your CFF licence.
  • login to the Canadian Fencing Federation website at to start the process of renewing
  • do not create a new account; everyone should be in the system already (except for complete beginners)
  • click on the ”I forgot my password” button, enter your email, and login information for the CFF website will be emailed to you. There you can renew your membership. If you can’t remember or access the email listed, you’ll need to contact the CFF for further instructions.
  • review and edit/add information on your profile to ensure it is complete and current
  • everyone will require their own email address (no parent/child/sibling sharing)
  • print two copies of the receipt and bring one for the club to retain in our files (saving a pdf version is also helpful)
  • these fees must be paid, and receipt provided, before participation in any fencing activities is permitted

Both CFF and AFA fees stay the same this year, but now the breakdown is more apparent. The associate AFA fee remains at $7.50 and the competitive fee at $42.50. In both cases the CFF license is $22.50. When added together, the fees are still $30 and $65, and CFF now automatically receives the license portion.

Volunteers Needed August 22-23!

August 13th, 2015

Request to our membership for volunteers to help with the refurbishment of the AFA pistes that are residing in Calgary

We will be cleaning the backing of the pistes that are going to be used for the U of C event in September. We need hands and expertise on what needs to be done but roughly what is needed is to remove the backing currently on the metal sections and replace with new rubber backing. The job entails much scraping, application of acetone and contact cement. Masks and cartridges for the fumes, gloves for the chemicals, and some drills for the wire brush scraping will be provided.

Time and location:
1 – 2080 39 Ave NE
August 22 and 23
9 to 5 each day

Please contact the Club if you have any questions. Thanks for your support!
