Beginner Classes

The Calgary Fencing Club offers beginner fencing classes for the age categories listed below. Please see the Class Schedule for the dates and times of upcoming beginner classes.

Child Beginner (ages 9 – 13)
Youth Beginner (ages 14 – 17)

Adult Beginner (ages 18+)

All beginner classes are six weeks in length and the cost includes the use of all equipment, deluxe facility, and coaching.  We welcome any interested fencers to drop in and watch a class. Cost

$150.00 (for the course) plus $30.00 (for an annual Canadian Fencing Federation membership) = total of $180.00 per participant.

Pre-registration Required

  • Please complete the CFC Registration Form or it can be picked up at the club (*must be signed by parent/guardian if fencer is under 18 years old*)
  • Phone registrations are NOT accepted.
  • Provide $150 cheque or cash, payable to “Calgary Fencing Club” (exact cash in person) for registration.  Please visit the Club office to obtain the CFF membership prior to class start; credit card required to process the online purchase.  All beginners require a CFF membership before they will be allowed to fence – the Club obtains liability insurance through CFF.

  • Registrations must be received no later than the Wednesday of the week before class begins.  To avoid disappointment early registration is suggested.
  • If you do not receive this information in time to pre-register, you must call to check if there is a spot available in the class. Confirm that you will be attending and bring your forms and payment to the first class. Last minute entries are not always available.

Refunds

  • Requests to cancel registration and receive a full refund will be accepted up to 7:00pm on Wednesday before the classes start. Refunds are not issued after that point.

What to wear and bring

  • Indoor running shoes (clean, dry, non-marking & gravel-free to protect the hardwood floor)
  • T-shirt and sweatpants (shorts, jeans, or tear-away pants are NOT permitted; nylon discouraged)
  • Water bottle and towel are recommended
  • Cameras are welcome
  • Hair dyes or gels which rub off onto equipment are prohibited

Parking

  • NO parking in front of the building (our private door is located in the back adjacent to the Vecova Bottle Depot)
  • Park in the back lane (north side of the building), west of bottle depot

Note

  • Space is limited to the first 18 students with their forms and fees received
  • Some classes fill quickly; register early to avoid disappointment. A waiting list is available.
  • Classes are subject to cancellation if the minimum required students (6) do not arrive for the first class. We regret any inconvenience and would reserve a spot for you in the next available class.
  • The Youth* and Adult* Beginner classes may be combined if registration numbers are small
