The Calgary Fencing Club (1985) Code of Conduct

The Calgary Fencing Club is Committed in providing a safe sport environment that is free from all forms of sexual, physical, mental, emotional and psychological harm. All board members, staff, parents, athletes, volunteers, officials and coaches have a responsibility to:

  • Ensure all intentions, actions and efforts be put on the safety of all Participants
  • Treat others with respect and dignity
  • Promote sportsmanship, leadership and ethical conduct
  • Respect the diversity of participants and reject discrimination
  • Treat individuals fairly and responsibly
  • Follow the rules of the sport and the spirit of the rules
  • Report any acts or suspicions of inappropriate behaviors or other maltreatment
  • Make sure all individuals feel included
  • Accept feedback about their own behaviors and work to correct problems.

All board members, staff and coaches are to take seriously all reports, allegations and suspicions of Maltreatment and to protect the health and well-being of all other participants. They are responsible to monitor their own behavior and the behavior of others. They are to ensure that individual accountability is promoted during interactions and to not take part in any prohibited behaviors. In order to help monitor their actions they are responsible to recognize systemic bias, unconscious bias and to respond quickly and effectively to discriminatory practices.

All board members, staff, parents, athletes, volunteers, officials and coaches are to refer to the “Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport” as well as their “Safe Sport” Training for further reference into the definitions of Maltreatment and prohibited behaviors.
